Founded by Brian Conlon, First Derivative has always championed the power of education, continuous learning and talent development. Today, as part of EPAM Systems, we build on this legacy with access to one of the world’s most advanced learning ecosystems – empowering our people to grow, innovate and lead in an ever‑evolving digital and financial services landscape.

As part of EPAM, our people gain access to a global learning ecosystem designed to accelerate growth, innovation and long‑term career development.
With 300+ L&D professionals worldwide, over 1,000 internal courses, 20,000+ partner learning options, and structured pathways across engineering, cloud, AI, domain, and leadership, EPAM offers the scale and depth to support continuous upskilling at every stage of a career. AI‑powered learning tools further enhance personalisation, accessibility and real‑time support — ensuring our teams are equipped to thrive in an AI‑driven world. As a global leader in digital engineering, EPAM doesn’t just adopt new technologies; it enables its people to develop the skills and confidence to deliver meaningful impact from day one.
For over 20 years, our award‑winning Capital Markets Training Programme has equipped thousands of professionals with the skills to excel in global financial services.
All our graduates enrol in the CMTP and, over a two‑year period, complete a minimum of 20 fintech modules along with an industry‑recognised professional certification.
Blending deep domain expertise with technical capability in engineering and data, alongside essential consulting and communication skills, the programme delivers a practical, hands‑on learning experience. Continuously updated to keep pace with industry change, the CMTP develops critical thinking, real‑world capability and the confidence to perform in fast‑moving capital markets environments.
All graduates joining FD receive full sponsorship for their first professional certification, ensuring they begin their careers with a strong technical foundation. All our people have access to extensive opportunities to earn industry‑recognised certifications through our strategic partnerships with leading cloud and technology providers. Over the past decade, more than 50 of our people have completed the MSc Financial Technology Management (formerly the MSc Global Capital Markets) — a specialised postgraduate degree co‑designed by Ulster University and FD to develop advanced skills in capital markets, technology and financial innovation.

We work closely with schools, colleges and universities to support early‑talent development through a wide range of initiatives. We have proudly taken part in programmes such as Business in the Community’s Time2Code, hosting insight days and work‑experience opportunities, and collaborate with Assured Skills Academies to help develop future talent across Ireland.

Our people actively share their expertise by delivering workshops and talks across a wide range of topics — from technology and capital markets domain knowledge to consulting skills and emerging areas such as AI.
These sessions help inspire future talent, strengthen our community partnerships, and ensure learners gain real‑world insight from industry practitioners.

While our people benefit from world‑class virtual learning experiences, we also prioritise in‑person training — ensuring collaboration, connection and hands‑on learning remain central to our development culture. From Graduate Induction Training at our Newry HQ and across APAC, to leadership programmes and in‑office bootcamps, we create every opportunity for face‑to‑face learning that builds skills, strengthens teamwork and accelerates professional growth.
