My placement role as a Software Engineer focused on Quality Assurance testing for a US global markets client. It was very hands on from the get-go and there was never a dull moment. I gained exposure to many different areas of the business giving a better picture of how software is developed. Throughout, I was pushed out of my comfort zone, from leading demos of new functionality to the client to holding training sessions with the rest of the team. My placement experienced helped improve my communication skills and boosted my confidence greatly. Not only did I learn new skills in terms of the software side of things, but I also obtained invaluable knowledge about finance and in particular foreign exchange.
