There are few places that capture the energy and history of global financial markets quite like the New York Stock Exchange. On Monday 2nd March, we were delighted to welcome clients, partners, colleagues, and First Derivative alumni to the Exchange for our New York Showcase, a morning that celebrated both how far First Derivative has come and the exciting opportunities ahead as part of EPAM.
The day began with a networking breakfast, a relaxed chance to meet clients, colleagues, and FD alumni from across New York. It was inspiring to see so many familiar faces who have shaped First Derivative over the years. Listening to their stories and perspectives reminded me how much of FD’s success is built on its people, their expertise, and the relationships they’ve nurtured. Those conversations set a warm and engaging tone for the rest of the morning.
After breakfast, we moved into our speaker session. Victoria Shanks, Managing Director, Account Management at First Derivative, shared her unique perspective on the FD story, having been with the company since almost day one.Hearing her recount the journey of the business, from its early days to its integration with EPAM and its expanding footprint in New York, brought the story to a life in a way only someone who has experienced it, can. Chris Owers, Global Head of Regulatory Compliance at FD, and I then shared our perspectives on the growth we’ve seen, the evolving regulatory and technology landscape, and what our combined strengths mean for clients navigating the challenges of modern Financial Services.
A highlight of the morning was a private briefing from the NYSE historian, who provided fascinating insight into the Exchange’s role in shaping modern financial markets. Stepping onto the trading floor afterward, seeing the market come alive, and having the chance to capture the moment in photos really brought everything full circle. It was a reminder that while innovation continues to transform our industry, the principles underpinning Financial Services – trust, transparency, and resilience, remain unchanged.
I continue to be impressed by the caliber and passion of the First Derivative team members, and as I talked about the depth of the client, industry and workflow knowledge that FD has in the Capital Markets space provides the contextual foundation for developing strong POV required to help our customer’s accelerate on their AI transformations from adoption to realizing outcomes. Chris’s demonstration of KYX is a great example of the thought leadership and IP we can bring and how we leverage this POV to drive outcomes around KYC.
The New York Showcase wasn’t just about sharing our story, it was about connecting people, connecting FD’s heritage with its future, alumni with current teams, and our combined EPAM and FD capabilities with the evolving needs of our clients.
As we continue to grow in North America, our focus remains on building strong partnerships, expanding our presence in key financial hubs, and delivering the engineering excellence and financial markets expertise our clients rely on. Monday’s morning at the NYSE was a reminder of how far we’ve come and a glimpse of the opportunities ahead as we continue shaping the next chapter of First Derivative within EPAM.
